Many advances in brain science have been made in the last 100 years but unlike most other organ systems in our bodies, many of the diseases and disorders of the nervous system have, as of yet, no identifiable cause and no cure. Much remains to be learned and we invite you to join us in one of the greatest adventures in human history, the unraveling of the mysteries of the brain and the conquest of neurological disorders and disease.
The research conducted in the Feil Family Brain and Mind Research Institute (BMRI) encompasses a wide range of approaches to the study of the brain, spanning from cellular and molecular investigations in the normal brain to clinical studies in patients. Major research programs at the BMRI are now studying the mechanisms that underlie stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Autism and Developmental disorders, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease), and disorders of consciousness following brain injury. Through our close institutional integration with the Weill Cornell Medicine Department of Neurology and New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, the BMRI is exceptionally poised to transform these advances in basic science into new treatments and therapies for patients and their families.
Philanthropic contributions are exceptionally important for fulfilling our mission to improve the recognition and treatment of brain disease. Your gift can support a specific area of study or can be made as an unrestricted gift to expand our research programs, purchase the latest, most sophisticated equipment or to renovate laboratories.
